Parks Volunteer Program
"Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
-- Margaret Mead

Volunteering Instructions

  • Please be on time. We often meet at one spot and walk or drive to the work site.
  • If you have not already signed a waiver, please request one.
  • If you are working on your own, keep track of your hours and report them to the Rhea at (224-3601).
  • You are expected to work safely and within the bounds of the project as it has been described to you.
  • Volunteer group leaders are responsible for passing these instruction and the project description on to their volunteer crew.

Because the weather varies from location to location as well as over the course of the day, we meet and work for as long as we can. We only cancel an activity for tornadoes or thunderstorms.

For activities such as controlled burns, park cleanup, wood-chipping, mulching and field work, we suggest closed, hard-soled shoes, long pants and sleeves, hats and work gloves. For seed collecting, scattering and cleaning, non-fuzzy clothes, long pants and closed shows. Chain saw workers are expected to provide and use appropriate safety equipment (there is a special form for chain saw workers to sign). We recommend dressing in layers.

Toilet Facilities

Many sites do not have water or bathrooms. You may want to bring your own drinking water.

Safety Gear

You must wear safety gear when required. See the following chainsaw safety gear requirements:
