Monona will play host to the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission for a listening session at 7 p.m. on August 28, 2002 at the Monona Community Center. The listening session was scheduled at the request of Dane County Supervisor Bill Graf of Monona and Monona City Administrator Dave Berner, both of whom were recently appointed as new members of the Commission.

"We are eager to hear what Monona residents have to say about lake and watershed issues. The commission always benefits from visiting different Dane County communities to get the broadest possible input into the challenges we face in lakes management," said Commission Chair Shary Bisgard.

The listening session is scheduled from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Monona Community Center, 1011 Nichols Road in Monona.

The meeting will include brief presentations by: Sue Jones, Lakes and Watershed Coordinator, on the Lakes and Watershed Commission and its current activities; John Dunn of the Dane County Department of Public Works on aquatic plant and lake level management; and Sgt. Dave Ritter of the Dane County Sheriff's Department's Marine and Trail Enforcement Bureau on boater safety and no-wake zones.

Following the presentations, the commission meeting will be opened up to public comment and questions.

Supervisor Graf said he hopes many Monona residents will take advantage of the opportunity to address the commission.

"The lake is Monona's greatest natural asset, and is a central part of our community's identity. This will be a good chance for Monona residents to talk with the commission about management of the watershed and offer any ideas they might have for improving it," Graf said.

Commission members will also be given a tour before the meeting to show them what Monona has done in response to property damage caused by high lake levels in recent years.
