New County Rural Road Maps Receive Top Honor from State Association

Dane County road maps developed and produced by the Dane County Planning and Development Department were recognized as the best in the state at the recent Wisconsin Land Information Association Conference.

The map, which offers detailed information about county roads, parks, and opportunities for outdoor recreation like fishing or hiking, won the blue ribbon, “best in class” award in the “Base Map” category.

“This award recognizes the countless hours of hard work that went into compiling these very user-friendly and informative county maps,” County Executive Falk said.

The maps detail interstate and state highways along with all county and town roads.  They also show the locations of Dane County parks and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource areas along with routes for the nearly 100 miles of bike trails that criss-cross the county.

The road map project was led by a team of county planning department staff members including GIS specialist Aaron Krebs, Land Records Administrator Troy Everson, Senior Planner Curt Kodl, and County Surveyor Dan Frick.  The entire Records and Support Division within Planning and Development assisted with production.

The award-winning maps cost $2.00 and are available in the County’s Planning and Development Department, Room 116 of the City County Building.
