Free Lifesaving Training Offered Saturdays at Farmer’s Market and at Dane County Fair

Dane County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is teaming up with Meriter and St. Mary’s Hospitals along with the Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross and Pulse Check Plus to offer free training this summer of the lifesaving skill known as “CCR.”

CCR, or cardio-cerebral resuscitation, is the newer, more effective version of CPR and is easier to learn and perform on someone because it only involves doing chest compressions and no mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Experts from Dane County EMS and its partners will be offering free public training of CCR at the Dane County Farmer’s Market on June 19th, June 26th, July 24th, and July 31st.  CCR training will also be offered at the Dane County Fair on Saturday, July 17th.

A calendar of these training opportunities is attached.

“In just a couple of years we’ve trained thousands of emergency responders, health care providers, county employees and citizens who stand ready to help save a life.  We’re continuing those efforts Saturdays this summer so more of our neighbors and friends know how to help in the event of a medical emergency,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said.

Science has shown providing Hands-Only CPR to an adult who has collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest can more than double that person’s chance of survival.

In 2009, Dane County EMS agencies and the Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) Center assisted in 13 “saves” in which CCR was performed and patients were successfully resuscitated.

It takes less than 15 minutes to learn CCR.
