Flora & Fauna Calendar Features Works by Local Artists

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission unveils its 2011 Art Calendar Flora & Fauna at a free public reception honoring fourteen local artists on Tuesday, November 9, from 5:00-6:30 pm at Prairie Café and Bakery in Middleton Hills (6720 Frank Lloyd Wright Ave, Middleton). The reception introduces the 12th art calendar, honors 2011 calendar artists, and features live music by Julian Lynch.

“Each year this beautiful calendar showcases the talents and creativity of our local artists as they portray the special places and people that make Dane County such a great place to call home,” Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said.

The 2011 calendars cost $7.58 each (plus sales tax) and are available at many retail locations and municipal halls, the Cultural Affairs Commission Office (Room 421, City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), and at culturalaffairscommission.com.

“I am pleased to continue this beloved annual tradition,” said Karen Crossley, Cultural Affairs Commission Director. “The art calendar offers a daily reminder of the beauty and vitality of our Dane County home, and the abundant talent of our local artists.”

Flora & Faunais the 12th edition in the annual calendar series highlighting arts, culture and creativity of Dane County and the surrounding region. Flora & Fauna was produced with financial support  from Alliant Energy and designed by Phil Hamilton, emeritus professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Calendar purchases help support the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission’s mission and programs: fostering public participation, increasing access, and forging alliances in support of arts, culture and local history.

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission was created by the Dane County Board of Supervisors in 1976, at the end of the American bicentennial observance, to foster public participation in local arts and historical activity; to increase public access to the cultural resources of the county; and to forge working alliances between public and private sectors in support of the arts. More information on the Commission is available at culturalaffairscommission.com.
