Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today praised youth and community leaders from throughout the area as the 7th annual Positive Youth Involvement (PYI) Week began. The event has grown in recent years to encompass 18 days of activities.
“We treasure our kids and want to help them reach their fullest potential,” said Falk. “The activities scheduled during the next three weeks create opportunities for kids to be recognized for the great things they do to enrich the quality of life in their homes, schools and communities.”
The 2004 Dane County Executive’s budget includes $134,600 to help operate 17 youth centers in the county.
“Our young people will have many opportunities as part of this celebration to participate in activities that help them develop life-skills and learn to form friendships and positive relationships with others,” said Falk.
In addition to the Youth Leadership Conference, up to 10,000 youth will participate in Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat, a food collection drive to benefit area food pantries.
PYI Week will conclude with a free all day event at Monona Terrace on Sunday November 16, 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., which will highlight local youth talent and enable youth and parents to talk to representatives from more than 100 youth programs in Dane County.
