Hey Brewer Fans—it's almost Opening Day. And Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, an enthusiastic baseball fan herself, is looking for a youngster to represent Dane County at the Brewers Opening Night game in the new Miller Park on April 6.
The Brewers Baseball Club is inviting a school-age youth from each of Wisconsin's 72 counties to participate in the pre-game ceremony when the Brewers host the Cincinnati Reds at 7:00 p.m. at Miller Park.
The Brewers will provide three complimentary game tickets for Dane County's representative, to cover the boy or girl and his/her parents or guardians. The youngster would participate in pre-game festivities and would then join family members in the stands to enjoy the game.
"As a baseball fan myself, I'm excited about Opening Day," said County Executive Falk. "It's neat that the Brewers are making this day extra special for kids from throughout Wisconsin."
Here are the rules of the game:
Boys and girls who live in Dane County and are in elementary, middle or high school are eligible.
Send a one-page letter including the name, address, phone, email and fax for the parent or guardian of the youth, and the youth's name, age, and school he or she attends.
A parent, teacher, grandparent, or someone else who knows the youth, or the youth himself or herself, needs to write two short answers (75 words or less for each) to the following two questions:
1. What volunteer activities has the youth been involved with in the community?
2. Why the opportunity to attend Opening Day would be especially meaningful for the young person.
A panel of judges will be named to review and select the young baseball fan who will represent Dane County.
The nomination must be received in the Office of the Dane County Executive by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16. Nominations may be mailed, faxed or emailed to:
