Mayor Susan J.M. Bauman, County Executive Kathleen Falk, and the Center on Wisconsin Strategies (COWS) will announce a major child care quality improvement initiative at a news conference, at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 8th at the Atwood Community Center preschool, 2425 Atwood Avenue, Madison.

The initiative was jointly developed by the City of Madison and Dane County with help from the Center on Wisconsin Strategies (COWS). COWS will evaluate the impacts of the program over a two-year period.

The initiative serves as a pilot project and is designed to improve the quality of care for kids by improving the quality of jobs for care providers.

Additional information on the joint initiative will be available at the news conference.

Note to editors:

At 10 a.m., prior to the 10:30 a.m. news conference, media are welcome to visit the home-based child care facility of Vick McMurray, 525 Dunning Street. McMurray's Bridges Child Care is one of the recipients of the compensation initiative grants that will be announced. Bridges Child Care and the Atwood Community Center are both on Madison's near-east side, near the Barrymore Theatre. Bridges Child Care is just south of Atwood Avenue, and the Atwood Community Center is on the south side of Atwood.
