Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today (2/15/01) announced the selection of Charity Eleson as the new Director of the Dane County Department of Human Services, pending County Board approval.
Eleson, 44, had served as interim director of the department since October 13, 2000, following the departure of former director Susan Crowley.

“I am very pleased that Charity will be leading the department. She’s an ideal choice given her strong credentials in human services policy, budget experience, and record of success in Dane County administration,” said Falk.

Eleson worked for the Department of Human Services for 11 years as the department’s manager of communications and worked with statewide advocacy and human services organizations on state and federal legislation, including welfare reform, long-term care redesign, juvenile justice, and an array of funding issues. In 1999 she was hired as Dane County’s lobbyist where she worked with groups statewide to advocate for funding and policies that would benefit human services and other county-managed functions.

“I am fortunate to have been given this opportunity by County Executive Falk,” said Eleson. “The department has been a state and national leader in many different programs. It employs staff and contracts with agencies that are highly committed to delivering services that improve the quality of life for all Dane County’s citizens. I will focus on ensuring our services are cost-effective and achieve the goals they are created to achieve.”

Eleson has a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is married to Pat Donnelly. They have a 13-year old daughter, Celia.

Eleson, who signed a five-year contract, will be paid $84,000.
