Dane County Hires Zoning Administrator

A former City of Verona zoning administrator who also worked as a supervisor for the City of Cedarburg among his 20 years of public and private experience has been hired as the zoning administrator for Dane County.

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today said Roger Lane was selected after a regional search to find the best person to handle one of the most important and urgent issues facing the county – land use.

“Roger has such a wide array of experience – including in the private sector – and we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to hire him for service to the county,” Falk said. “It is critical that the county have a zoning administrator with the intelligence and know-how to handle our land use questions that will earn the respect of the public and private parties involved in various land proposals.

Lane, who served as Verona’s zoning administrator for eight years, will be responsible for overseeing the entire zoning and land division function of the County in the unincorporated lands outside the incorporated cities and villages.

“This is no easy task because Dane County covers 1,200 square miles and is experiencing some of the most significant development pressures in the state,” Falk said. “We are the fastest growing county in the state, adding 6,000 residents each year.”

Lane also will manage and supervise the staff of 10 in the Zoning Division of the Dane County Planning and Development Department, headed by director Todd Violante.

“This is a hard job and I’m confident Roger has the experience and understanding to do it for Dane County,” Violante said.

Lane will start on Monday, April 23, and his salary will be $62,296.
