    Title: Dane County (WI) Tax Parcels
    Abstract:
    The Dane County Parcel Database was derived from a variety of source maps including U.S. General Land Office survey plats, deed descriptions, subdivision plats, certified survey maps and right-of-way plats. All new parcels are entered into the database using coordinate geometry (COGO). The map provides a representation of the geometry and topology of tax parcels. It is not intended to be used for the legal determination of land ownership or to be in any way a substitute for the land ownership and interest descriptions contained in individual deeds.

    Several cities and villages in Dane County provided a variety of parcel information to Dane County to assisting the parcel mapping effort. This data has a high level of accuracy and was stitched into the county-wide coverage with only minor adjustments in some areas.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

    Attributes have been reviewed and are accurate and true to Dane County's knowledge.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

    The relative horizontal positional accuracy for the planimetric information used to develop the original tax parcel data is estimated at +/- 10 feet. With the improvement of control network and the use of coordinate geometry contained in original source documents the positional accuracy is higher most areas.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    The unincorporated areas of the county have been mapped and are currently in maintenance mode. Approximately ninety-nine percent of the incorporated areas of the county have been mapped.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

    The data set is topologically structured line and polygon data with no gaps or omissions.

    An additional cost of $30/hour for staff time plus computer time and media charges is assessed for non-standard datasets or non-standard data file formats.
