Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today that Hattie Bryant, author, and the host and producer of “Small Business School”, a weekly public television show broadcast to over 200 PBS stations nationwide, will kick-off the 2003 Dane County Business Forum October 28.

“Whenever Hattie speaks, she teaches. She motivates. She entertains,” said Falk. “All Dane County business owners, but particularly women and minority-owned firms, can take home valuable lessons from her stories and valuable lessons.”

Held on October 28 at the Exhibition Hall of the Alliant Energy Center, the morning forum also offers opportunities for small businesses to meet with private and public sector buyers.

Falk will welcome attendees at the 2003 Forum, which begins with a breakfast keynote presentation by Bryant, the host and producer of “Small Business School”, a weekly television series dealing with starting, running and growing small businesses. As an owner of her own small business, author of the small business success book, “Beating the Odds”, and an experienced trainer and seminar presenter, Bryant has a wealth of information and tips to share with small businesses and those interested in seeing them succeed.

Following Bryant’s presentation, Forum attendees will have the opportunity to attend individualized one-on-one meetings with public and private sector buyers. The list of buyers includes Dane County Purchasing, Rayovac, City of Madison Purchasing, Masterlock Corporation, UW Systems Purchasing, and the WI Department of Transportation. Business Development seminars regarding Government Procurement Basics, Bidding and Certification Processes, and Business Assistance Resources will also be held.

The Forum is the result of cooperative efforts between Dane County, Wisconsin Departments of Commerce and Transportation, the UW-Madison Small Business Development Center, MATC’s Business Procurement Assistance Center, Wells Fargo Bank, the Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative Corporation and the financial support of many community sponsors.

Dane County’s 2003 Business Opportunity Forum will take place from 7:30 am through 11:45 am. For registration information, visit www.co.dane.wi.us and click on 2003 Business Opportunity Forum or call 608/221-1374. The registration fee is $25 for the breakfast, or $35 for breakfast, buyer meetings, and workshops.
